Compounding
What is compounding?Compounding combines an ageless art with the latest medical knowledge and state-of-the-art technology, allowing specially trained professionals to prepare customized medications to meet each patient's specific needs. As compounding becomes more and more popular, we are seeing many more orders for alternative methods of pain relief. Doctors and Patients who experience various side effects from their pain medications are getting the same results from a cream they can apply directly to the source. Creams can usually be compounded with the prescribed medication with some additional ingredients such as menthol for additional relief. Some people are unable to swallow conventional pills and have their prescriptions compounded into a liquid or gel alternative. Children respond much better medications in the form of syrups or lollipops than regular tablets. You can even compound your pets medication into a tasty treat that will require very little coaxing to swallow. Compounding is fundamental to the profession of pharmacy and was a standard means of providing prescription medications before drugs began to be produced in mass quantities by pharmaceutical manufacturers. The demand for professional compounding has increased as healthcare professionals and patients realize that the limited number of strengths and dosage forms that are commercially available do not meet the needs of many patients, and that these patients often have a better response to a customized dosage form that is "just what the doctor ordered". How to Write a Prescription for a Compounded MedicationOur Pharmacists will be happy to discuss formulations and answer any questions.
