Benazepril/Amlodipine (By mouth)
Amlodipine Besylate (am-LOE-di-peen BES-i-late), Benazepril Hydrochloride (ben-AZ-e-pril hye-droe-KLOR-ide)
Treats high blood pressure. Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride is a combination of an ACE inhibitor and a calcium channel blocker.

There may be other brand names for Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride. When Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride Should Not Be Used:
You should not use Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride if you have had an allergic reaction to amlodipine or benazepril. Do not use Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride if you have had an allergic reaction to other ACE inhibitor such as Accupril®, Altace®, Lotensin®, Monopril®, Prinivil®, Vasotec®, or Zestril®. You should not use Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride if you are pregnant, or have a history of angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat). Your doctor will tell you how much of Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride to use and how often. Your dose may need to be changed several times in order to find out what works best for you. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to.

You may take Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride with or without food.

Carefully follow your doctor's instructions about any special diet.
If a dose is missed:

If you miss a dose or forget to use your medicine, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to use the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
How to Store and Dispose of Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride:

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

Ask your pharmacist, doctor, or health caregiver about the best way to dispose of any leftover medicine after you have finished your treatment. You will also need to throw away old medicine after the expiration date has passed.

Keep all medicine away from children and never share your medicine with anyone.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

Make sure your doctor knows if you are using other medicines for high blood pressure (such as diltiazem, nifedipine, verapamil, Norvasc®, or Procardia®) or a diuretic or "water pill" (such as amiloride, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide, spironolactone, triamterene, Aldactazide®, Aldactone®, Dyazide®, Hyzaar®, Lasix®, Maxzide®, Moduretic®, or Zestoretic®). Tell your doctor if you are using lithium (Eskalith®, Lithobid®) or sodium aurothiomalate (injectable gold).

Ask your doctor before you use potassium supplements or salt substitutes that contain potassium.
Warnings While Using Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride:

Using Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride while you are pregnant can harm your unborn baby. Use an effective form of birth control to keep from getting pregnant. If you think you have become pregnant while using the medicine, tell your doctor right away.

Make sure your doctor knows if you are breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, severe chest pain, congestive heart failure, heart disease, dehydration, diabetes, low sodium in the blood, low blood pressure, low blood volume, or had a recent heart attack. Tell your doctor if you have a collagen-vascular disease such as lupus or scleroderma.

Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride may cause a serious type of allergic reaction called anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis can be life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention. Call your doctor right away if you have a rash; itching; hoarseness; trouble breathing; trouble swallowing; or any swelling of your hands, face, lips, tongue, or throat while you are using Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride.

Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride may make you dizzy or drowsy. Avoid driving, using machines, or doing anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert.

Liver problems may occur while you are using Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride. Stop using Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride and check with your doctor right away if you are having more than one of these symptoms: abdominal pain or tenderness; clay-colored stools; dark urine; decreased appetite; fever; headache; itching; loss of appetite; nausea and vomiting; skin rash; swelling of the feet or lower legs; unusual tiredness or weakness; or yellow eyes or skin.

Make sure any doctor or dentist who treats you knows that you are using Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride. You may need to stop using Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride several days before having surgery or medical tests.

If you stop using Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride, your blood pressure may go up. High blood pressure usually has no symptoms. Even if you feel well, do not stop using the medicine without asking your doctor.

Your doctor will need to check your progress at regular visits while you are using Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride. Be sure to keep all appointments. Blood tests may be needed to check for unwanted effects.
Possible Side Effects While Using Amlodipine (Amlodipine Besylate)/Benazepril Hydrochloride:
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing.

Change in how much or how often you urinate.

Confusion, weakness, uneven heartbeat, shortness of breath, or numbness or tingling in your hands, feet, or lips.

Dark-colored urine or pale stools.
-
Dry mouth, increased thirst, muscle cramps, or nausea or vomiting.
-
Fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat.
-
Lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting.
-
Severe stomach pain (with or without nausea or vomiting).
-
Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet.
-
Warmth or redness in your face, neck, arms, or upper chest.
-
Yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes.
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:

Cough or sore throat.

Headache.
-
Mild stomach pain, diarrhea, or nausea.

Muscle pain.
-
Nervousness.
-
Problems with sex.
